Scouting for Food

Dear Troop 496,

I can’t wait for our big District wide Service Project—Scouting for Food this Saturday!  I have had a phenomenal response both from parents and scouts willing to help out.  A lot of great points came from our meeting Monday night.  So, I just wanted to share with you a few more details.

WHEN/WHERE:

·        We will now be meeting at 9 am (a ½ hour earlier than the previous email).

·        At 12:30 all routes will stop collecting and return to Valley Creek.  Most scouts will be done volunteering by 1 pm.

·        A few volunteers will be needed to drive ALL donated items over to the Food Pantry at 1 pm.

·        We will meet in the front parking lot of Valley Creek Elementary School.

WHO:

·        Entire Scout Families are invited to assist.  The District not only is encouraging full participation, but wants to capture the total number of EVERYONE—scouts, parents, siblings, etc—who volunteers this Saturday.

·        If you can’t make it for the whole morning, still come out.  I understand that all of the boys have very busy schedules and may not be able to attend for the full time.  No worries.  We will be volunteering from 9-2, so whatever time your scout arrives, I will be at Valley Creek and deploy him to volunteer with different groups.

·        Please let me know if you are NOT arriving at 9 am with the rest of the troop.

DRESS CODE:

·        Scouts should wear their Class A uniforms.  Of course, if it is cold have them wear layers, hat/gloves, etc.

·        Other family members should wear Class B’s or a Boy Scout t-shirt—if you have extras.

WHAT TO BRING:

·        Any canned goods you would like to donate.  J

·        A water bottle and maybe a snack—they will be out collecting, etc for 4 hours.

PROCESS:

·        I will give a short overview to the boys as they sign in and grab a donut (a big thanks to the parents donating).

·        Signing In is very important both to capture service hours for the boys AND for the district.

·        Afterwards, 2 deep adults and boys will be handed maps to assigned routes. (THANK YOU Amy Brown!!)

·        We have 10 routes and over 20 scouts attending, plus many parents and siblings!

Can’t wait to see everyone Saturday morning!   Hopefully, that covers everything, but if you have any questions, please email me.  Or, you can call my cell phone Saturday morning at 972-400-2615.

Thanks again,

Nancy Labadie
