FAQ’s
Q: Will my Scout have to sell anything? A: No. T496 doesn’t sell. We fund the Troop’s activities through our partnerships with the McKinney Sunrise Rotary and Stonebridge Interfaith. If a special need arises, we ask for donations from the parents and/or consider other opportunities.
Q: Your sponsor is Trinity Presbyterian Church. If I’m not a member of TPC or am not Presbyterian, can I still be a part of the Troop? A: Absolutely! While some of our Scouts are members of TPC, it is in no way a requirement, and in fact, most of the T496 Scouts are not members of TPC. T496 is open to Scouts of all faiths and backgrounds. Trinity Presbyterian Church, as the Charter Organization, provides an organizational umbrella for T496 and allows us to use their facilities for our meetings.
Q: I want my son to be in Scouts but I’m not sure what level of commitment/involvement I can make. A: As a parent, you can be as involved or uninvolved as you would like to be. We understand that you have other commitments that might preclude you from being involved. Or, you might just not like the idea of camping. That’s fine. We’ll take care of it. On the other hand…if you want to help, we will absolutely use you and not force you to “pay your dues” while you wait for a spot to open up.
Q: Will my son be safe? A: T496 requires every leader to undergo the BSA Youth Protection Training as a minimum requirement for involvement. In addition, every activity requires a minimum of tw0-deep leadership (a BSA and T496 requirement), and leaders trained in CPR, Hazardous Weather recognition and response, Safe Swim and First Aid. In addition, activities such as canoeing, climbing, shooting, etc require additional training and certification of the leaders.
